World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5th since its conception in 1973 by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The students of Grade 10A and B at National Public School, ITPL hosted a special assembly to raise awareness and encourage a call to action to protect our planet by supporting innovations that drive sustainability. The assembly commenced with the school prayer, followed by the Director-Principal Ms. Vandana Sanjay welcoming the students of Grades 3 to 8 on their first day of school. Next, to enrich the programme the students conducted a quiz on this year’s theme of ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ and performed the song ‘Heal the World’ by Michael Jackson.
On a high note, the students pledged to be more environmentally conscious by sharing their ways of being mindful towards mother Earth. The assembly concluded by reminding everyone of an old Cree Indian Prophecy – “Only when the last tree has been cut down, the last fish been caught, and the last stream poisoned, will we realize we cannot eat money.”
