International Chess Day is celebrated annually on July 20, the day the World Chess Federation (FIDE) was founded, in 1924.

To mark the celebration of this day, National Public School, ITPL observed a special assembly hosted by the students of Grade IX on 21st July 2023. It’s a day to recognize the universal appeal and intellectual brilliance of this ancient game. The students enlightened the audience by rendering a speech highlighting the history of chess, which is believed to have originated in ancient India during the Gupta Empire as “Chaturanga,” evolving and adapting with each passing era.

The young students presented a short act followed by a melodious song dedicated to the game of chess. The assembly culminated by recognizing and awarding a trophy to our little chess master Ishaan Kher of grade III.

The day surely encouraged each student to take a moment to appreciate the nuances of chess and build interest in learning its techniques.
